The Grill Market

Grillmarkaðurinn or „The Grillmarket“ opened in 2011 in a new „old“ building right in the heart of Reykjavík which was part of a project to rejuvenate the city center following a major fire in 2007.  The restaurant is the second restaurant of Hrefna Sætran, one of Iceland’s most popular chefs who also runs the Fish Market.

The Grillmarket as the name implies relies heavily on a japanese style grill and there are some asian influences to be found in the cuisine. The menu though is predominantly Icelandic and the restaurant has built up good ties to farmers around the country. It is a good place to try some whale and the burger is one of Iceland’s best.

It is a buzzing place most days of the week in spite of its size, great athmosphere and very stylish in design but service can be a bit erratic.
