Its hard to beat the location of Humarhúsið or the Lobster House. Situated in a historic 18th century building in Amtmannsstígur it has been tastefully decorated in a warm scandinavian turn of last century decor. The lobster on offer is as always in Iceland the langoustine which is served here in a variety of ways. It is best simply grilled with butter, garlic and parsley but of course you can try it with goat cheese papaya and lemongrass.
For the carnivores a range of meat is alwys on offer. Usually you can find tenderloin of beef or duck breasts and of course Icelandic lamb. For the adventurous it is not uncommon to find whale prepared as a japanese style sashimi or colt – icelandic horse – which actually gives the beef a run for its money when it comes to being lean and tasty.
Service is attentive and efficient and the assortiment on the wine list is broad and well chosen.
The Lobster House is not cheap but the price quality ratio is good.
